At NCCCSPA2019, we celebrated 20 years of collaboration and creating connections of all kinds. We learned a lot, and had a great time enjoying a scavenger hunt and playing games too!
One of the most fun activities asked attendees to share their thoughts on several prompts. In this new series of posts, we'll explore each list and share them with you. Without further ado, let's dig into the first item on the list: Tell us your favorite NCCCSPA memory:

Kristen is a psychology instructor at Coastal Carolina Community College, and is a returning visitor to our NCCCSPA Annual Conference. We are thrilled to award her this scholarship, which includes registration and accommodations for the 2019 NCCCSPA Annual Conference in Kill Devil Hills, NC. This year, the NCCCSPA is celebrating our 20th anniversary. The organization was born from a curriculum improvement project in 1999 that gathered psychology and sociology instructors from across the North Carolina community college system to share ideas and create connections. Now, twenty years later, we continue our mission with a conference titled "Creating Connections" that will celebrate the past, present, and future of the NCCCSPA. Please make your plans to join us in Kill Devil Hills for our event, which will be held November 6-8, 2019. Our conference registration is live, and the Ramada Plaza Nags Head is ready to take your reservations! Visit our Annual Conference page to learn more and reserve your space for this exciting conference! You can find us at www.ncccspa.org. Congratulations, Kristen, and we hope you will all join us for this year's conference!

We've migrated our site, and are in the process of constructing important pieces, so please know that your favorite parts of the NCCCSPA site are coming soon if they are not already up and running (including older blog posts). At the 2018 NCCCSPA Annual Conference, the attendees committed to helping the community colleges in the areas affected by Hurricane Florence. Representatives of the most affected colleges have agreed to help us to distributed the funds that we collected, and we committed to launching a larger effort. With that in mind, you will now find a page dedicated to our Hurricane Florence Relief fund on our website at www.ncccspa.org. As we enter the season of giving, please consider donating to this worthy cause. All funds donated (minus small processing fees charged to us by PayPal) will be distributed evenly among the most impacted colleges through our member representatives. Please visit our Hurricane Donations page to learn more and donate what you can. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to the NCCCSPA, our instructors, and our students!

You can find the Call for Proposals link on our Annual Conference portal page. We will be accepting proposals until February 17th, 2019, and we look forward to hearing from you! Thanks again to our wonderful sponsors, McGraw-Hill and Pearson, and to all of our attendees and presenters for making this the best NCCCSPA Annual Conference yet! We look forward to seeing you at NCCCSPA2019! I can't speak for everyone, but I left this year's conference feeling like we were successful. I had a great time in Asheville, but then, I live here, and I do love my mountains.
I watched our group of people - old faces, new faces (18 first-timers!) - build with Legos, listen intently to presenters, discuss important issues, and give of themselves and their wallets to support our colleagues ravaged by Hurricane Florence. I am incredibly proud to be part of this group. We have a new slate of officers on your Executive Board, and I am no longer your President. I have so enjoyed serving in this capacity, and I can't think of anyone better to hand it over to than Happy Gingras, who has served so well as your Vice President for the past two years. There will be another post soon about the full slate of new officers, but for this post, I wanted to celebrate. Check out the rest of our web site for details about 2019. There's great stuff coming for the 20th anniversary conference celebration. With Gratitude, Porscha Orndorf |
