CONSTITUTIONARTICLE I ORGANIZATION AND NAME
The name of the organization is the North Carolina Community College Sociology and Psychology Association, also known as NCCC Sociology and Psychology Association and NCCCSPA. The North Carolina Community College Sociology and Psychology Association is a non-profit educational and professional organization as defined under section 501 (c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code (as revised).
ARTICLE II PURPOSES
The purposes of the organization include providing mechanisms for communication and cooperation among faculty who teach our disciplines in the North Carolina Community College System; providing opportunities for professional and career development for our members; recommending policies on issues of interest to our disciplines and to teaching; and encouraging and supporting the effective teaching and practice of our disciplines.
ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the organization is open to all individuals who teach psychology and/or sociology in the North Carolina Community College System, or who support the purposes of the organization.
ARTICLE IV EXECUTIVE BOARD AND ELECTED OFFICES
The Executive Board of the organization is composed of the elected officers, the immediate past president and immediate past vice-president, Chairpersons of the committees, and the newsletter editor if one is appointed. Elected officers of the organization include President, Vice-President, Secretary, and the Regional Representatives designated in the By-laws. Officers will serve through the end of the membership year.
ARTICLE V COMMITTEES
Standing and ad hoc committees may be established to assist the Executive Board in conducting the business of the organization. The President is an ex officio member of all committees.
ARTICLE VI MEETINGS
The organization will hold at least one meeting every two years during which elections and other business of the organization will be conducted. Other meetings will be scheduled as necessary to meet the needs of the organization. All business meetings will be conducted in accordance with accepted parliamentary procedure following the most recent edition of Robert’s Rules of Order, except as specified otherwise in the Constitution and/or by-laws of the organization.

ARTICLE VIII DISSOLUTION
The organization may be dissolved by a vote of two-thirds of the members attending a business meeting provided that notice of the proposed dissolution has been distributed to the general membership in writing at least 30 days prior to the meeting in which the vote is to be taken. Any funds of the organization left after the organization’s bills and other obligations have been satisfied shall be given to an organization whose goals are similar to those of the North Carolina Community College Sociology and Psychology Association, so long as that organization is tax exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code (as revised).

E. The term of office for elected officers is two years. On even-number years, elections will be held for one Regional Representative from each region. On odd-number years, elections will be held for the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and the other three Regional Representatives.
F. The Executive Board will appoint a Treasurer. The Treasurer manages the financial business of the organization, collects dues and other income, disburses organizational funds, and makes financial reports to the Executive Board and membership as directed by the Executive Board.

BY-LAWS
I. MEMBERSHIP
- The membership year is September 1 through August 31.
- A person is considered to be a member in Good Standing upon payment of dues. A Member in good standing may participate in all official activities of the organization.
- Membership dues will be recommended by the Executive Board and approved by a simple majority of the members attending an official business meeting, provided that notice of the proposed dues has been distributed to the general membership in writing at least 30 days prior to the meeting in which the vote is to be taken.
- Membership may be terminated by resignation, failures to pay dues or violation of the Constitution or By-laws of the organization.
- The President serves as chairperson of the Executive Board, conducts official meetings and other business of the organization, and represents the organization in its external affairs.
- The Vice President serves as the chairperson of the Program Committee to plan and organize official meetings, and performs the duties of President in the absence of the President.
- The Secretary records the minutes of official meetings of the organization, manages the official correspondence of the organization, communicates with the membership on behalf of the organization and the Executive Committee.
- The Regional Representatives, two for each region of the state, communicate the interests of the organization within their respective regions, represent the members of the organization within their respective regions, serve on the Membership Committee, and participate in Executive Board meetings and other organizational activities.
- For the purpose of representation, North Carolina is divided into three regions composed as much as possible of an equal number of colleges in the North Carolina Community College system.
- The regions of the state are the Eastern Region, the Central Region, and the Western Region.

III. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS
- The President will appoint a Nominating Committee composed of members in good standing. An effort will be made to include representation from all regions to the extent possible.
- The Nominating Committee will present a slate of nominees for the elected offices in writing to the membership, at least 30 days prior to the meeting in which the election will take place. Any member in good standing may add additional nominations to the slate.
- The election of officers for the following year will occur during an official business meeting, which is announced in writing to the general membership at least 30 days prior to the date of the meeting.
- Newly elected officers will take office after the election. An officer may continue in office until a replacement is selected.
- The Executive Board may appoint a person to fill a vacancy which occurs during the term of an elected officer.
- The Executive Board will appoint a webmaster to maintain the NCCCSPA website and distribute an electronic newsletter to the membership.
- The President shall appoint one of the elected regional representatives to direct and coordinate the activities and responsibilities of the regional representatives.
- The Membership Committee is a standing committee composed of the three Regional
- The Nominating Committee is a standing committee composed of the Secretary and a minimum of two other members in good standing. The Nominating Committee is responsible for recruiting candidates for elected officers, presenting the slate of candidates in writing to the membership at least 30 days prior to the meeting in which the election is to occur, and conducting the election. An effort will be made to include representation from all regions to the extent possible.
- The Program Committee is a standing committee composed of the Vice-President and other members in good standing who agree to serve. The Program Committee is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing the official meetings of the organization.
- The President and/or the Executive Board may establish such ad hoc committees as are necessary from time to time.
- A quorum for an Executive Board meeting is a simple majority of the elected officers.
- A quorum for an official meeting that has been announced in writing at least 30 days in advance consists of all members in good standing who are present.
- A quorum for a committee meeting is a simple majority of members of the committee.
