Wake Technical Community College
Kim Breivogel has taught Psychology at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh for over 20 years, in online, seated and hybrid formats. While each course she teaches has different objectives, Kim’s ultimate goal is for her students to be able to apply class concepts to daily life and to actually USE their knowledge to become a happier, healthier, more effective and satisfied human beings. This is not an unreachable goal-- Psychology is the rare subject that's instantly applicable to each one of us every single day of our lives. Not many fields of study can make that claim! Kim initially got hooked on Psychology during her first psych course at Appalachian State University and went on to earn a BA in Psychology, and later a MA in School Psychology. After practicing as a School Psychologist for 5 years she went back to school, earning a Counseling/Adult Development/Higher Education degree from UNC- Greensboro. Current interests include lifespan development and human sexuality. Kim co-advises the Full Spectrum Gender & Sexualities Alliance at Wake Tech and also teaches lifespan sexuality education workshops (Kindergarten through adult) through the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh. Kim and her partner of 26 years live in Southern Wake county. They have two wonderful adult children, a sweet dog, a big vegetable garden and a noisy flock of backyard chickens.

Howdy, everyone! I'm Paula Teander, a Sociology Professor at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, where I've been teaching full-time for 15 years. When I'm not in the classroom, I serve as co-advisor for Full Spectrum, Wake Tech's Gender-
Sexuality Alliance, where we create safe spaces for students while organizing educational and social activities that are both meaningful and fun!
My sociology journey began at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, where I double-dipped with a Sociology major and Psychology minor. I continued at Baylor University in Waco for my master's (yes, that Waco—famous for more than just "Fixer
Upper" these days). After a year as a case worker for Big Brothers Big Sisters, I discovered my true calling in education and completed my PhD in May 1994, focusing on social psychology and medical sociology.
I now call Fuquay-Varina home, where I enjoy traveling, reading, hiking, and bird-watching when not spending time with my wonderful adult children—my 30-year-old daughter and 28-year-old son—and my two rescue cats, Mateo and Tilly.
As your Central NC Regional Representative, I'm excited to connect with fellow sociology and psychology instructors across our region.
