Howdy, everyone! I'm Paula Teander, a Sociology Professor at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, where I've been teaching full-time for 15 years. When I'm not in the classroom, I serve as co-advisor for Full Spectrum, Wake Tech's Gender-
Sexuality Alliance, where we create safe spaces for students while organizing educational and social activities that are both meaningful and fun!
My sociology journey began at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX, where I double-dipped with a Sociology major and Psychology minor. I continued at Baylor University in Waco for my master's (yes, that Waco—famous for more than just "Fixer
Upper" these days). After a year as a case worker for Big Brothers Big Sisters, I discovered my true calling in education and completed my PhD in May 1994, focusing on social psychology and medical sociology.
I now call Fuquay-Varina home, where I enjoy traveling, reading, hiking, and bird-watching when not spending time with my wonderful adult children—my 30-year-old daughter and 28-year-old son—and my two rescue cats, Mateo and Tilly.
As your Central NC Regional Representative, I'm excited to connect with fellow sociology and psychology instructors across our region.
